There are so many great bakeries in NYC. I usually go out of my way to try a few ones out with a general idea of what to get. I had no intention of coming here so I had no clue what I wanted to get. I did a very cursory search on Yelp and saw the Brooklyn blackout cake come up. So I ended up ordering it. To my surprise, the only option was to buy 2 slices for 10. The cake was very dense with ok flavor. Not something I would get again. But the oat milk latte was good.

Wow, I'm so surprised for the reviews here. I've been wanting to try some Brooklyn Blackout Cake forever - it just feels so hard to find but I saw Ovenly serves it so I just had to come! The inside was small but didn't feel too cramped and was cute. Staff was friendly enough and didn't give us any trouble despite coming close to closing. The blackout cake was already pre-sliced and in the fridge, so it was a quick and easy pickup. My god, this cake is amazing. I'm usually sensitive to chocolate cakes since it's always overly sweet but this cake was so rich in cocoa without the sweetness of chocolate. I must come back for more of this cake!

Staff was very friendly. Place is a cute little cafe. This is not the first time I've had the Brooklyn Blackout cake. I tried it from someone a few months ago but I had to go back and get some for myself. This isn't any chocolate cake. The cake is not overloaded with artificial sugar and that basic chocolate taste like others. This is very rich chocolate that is dense and delicious and doesn't make my body feel bad afterwards. Best chocolate cake I've had.

I came back and enjoyed it again! I had the pistachio cardamom loaf, which was a little dry. But then the pumpkin loaf was to die for! So moist and delicious!

They make a great matcha and have some really good pastries! I recommend coming here. The pier to catch the ferry into the city is close by. Barista was lovely.

So darn good I forgot to take a picture of some of the items I bought. This place is like a hidden gem in Brooklyn. I actually discovered this place through Instagram and I'm glad I found it. I had to try a little bit of everything and everything taste amazing! I ordered the pistachio bread, lemon blueberry bread (try both), salted peanuts butter cookies (This is a must have if you love peanut butter- the taste is just so classic soft bake and nearly melts in your mouth), the almond croissant -soo good, the banana cupcake- amazing!, the black out cupcake (very rich cake, but I wasn't crazy about it cause chocolate cakes aren't necessarily my favorite pick for deserts), and lastly the vanilla cupcake. All the pastries were very rich in taste, yet not cloying, nor over sweetened. Yes I'm a fatty and a foodie but because the store was about to close I ended up getting some items discounted which was a plus for me! They also had some refreshing lemonade on display so I tried the turmeric lemonade, perfect balance of both flavors. I will def get be returning when I'm back in the area! Service was great and the cashier made great recommendations.

During COVID-19 as of March 2022: I've been here several times for their iced tea and famous blackout cake slices. I'm happy to say both are great options for different reasons. If you're walking the Greenway, Ovenly is just walks away for a pickup. They have tables inside and outside to dine in or to takeout. Service is typical NYC service: fast and to the point. The cafe is quite small and seems to always be packed in the day time. The pastry selection consists of cakes, cupcakes, loafs and the typical croissants. I've learned that Ovenly is known for their blackout cakes and have been a fan ever since. Price range wise, they are fairly priced. Two slices for $10 of their signature cake is worth it! I usually save the other for the next day or more. The consistency is moist and thick like a brownie. The taste is pure bliss if you like chocolate cake. Accepts cash, card and Applepay. Indoor/outdoor dining and take out available. Good for working/studying/etc. Bathroom available. Reasonably priced. Masks indoors. Bon appetit!

I can see why this bakery/cafe has such a high rating. It's a family oriented place. When I sat there, I noticed the demographic is mostly parents with young children. The cashier was very nice to me. I asked her why she charged me $3 for a large coffee when the menu stated $3.50. She told me it was because I paid in cash. She also informed me their best sellers are chocolate chips and peanut butter cookies. Moreover, they just opened another location in West Village. I dropped a star because they don't have wifi.
